Just down the road from us, set high on the rolling South Downs, is Uppark, a fine late 17th century National Trust house. Anyone who loves a good period drama will be interested in seeing the contrast in life upstairs and downstairs at Uppark, with a maze of small servants’ quarters below stairs, and the large, grand rooms for the nobility on the ground floor. The prolific English writer H.G. Wells spent some of his early years at Uppark, where his mother, Sarah, was housekeeper.

Those who prefer more adrenalin-fuelled pursuits will want to check out Goodwood Racecourse, which is about a 20-minute drive from us. The track is home to some renowned races including Glorious Goodwood. The course is an unusual and challenging one, described by champion jockey Frankie Dettori as “the most picturesque course in the world”.

The course is within the 12,000-acre Goodwood Estate, which is also home to Goodwood Motor Circuit. The world-famous motorsport festivals Goodwood Revival, Festival of Speed and the Members’ Meeting are all held at Goodwood Motor Circuit. Visitors to Goodwood Estate can also participate in high-octane track days and other exciting driving experiences, among other sporting adventures.

And just a 15-minute drive from Goodwood Estate is Chichester, a small city, most famous for Chichester Cathedral, the seat of the Anglican Bishop of Chichester. The cathedral has stunning Norman and Gothic features, and is home to beautiful medieval and contemporary art, including two rare medieval sculptures.
